Code of Conduct by Cheyenne Blue6/27/2023 Filled with anecdotes from family members, her doubles partner, agent and even her coach, CODE OF CONDUCT gives a behind-the-scenes look at many intense rivalries that goes on at certain tournaments. For the first 100 pages and more, nothing much happened that was deem important or storyline worthy - all i can say is that readers get acquainted with Viva and Gabriela (quick sex driven hook-up) and a few back & forth tennis activity. Viva at times had to overcome physical and emotional setbacks during her time on the tennis circuit just to prove herself as being rank among the most top elite ladies in the world after winning a Grand Slam. Her successes are imbued with the perspective of overcoming the obstacles come her way and believing in herself no matter the odds. This book also explores the hard work, commitment and sacrifice that every athlete goes into reaching their/her goal. Through the characters we peek into the experience of celebrity (tennis players) with its unforeseen consequences. In life, everyone has the inherent need to be understood by another,to be seen. This story asks what it means to be seen, really seen and how two people can navigate maintaining that connection within their demands and distractions of life. **'Write like you're in love.Edit like you're in charge. The key is to tell or write it straight.'ĬODE OF CONDUCT delves into the idea of choices,Love and responsibility in one's own circumstances. Stephen fry's mythos6/27/2023 The store also sold T-shirts, technical books, potato chips, and magazines, including Playboy. The store was one of the few retail outlets in the country that sold off-the-shelf microprocessors, such as the Intel 80286. The original Sunnyvale store (located near the intersection of Oakmead Parkway and Lakeside Drive ) stocked numerous high-tech supplies such as integrated circuits, test and measurement equipment, and computer components, as well as software and various other types of consumer electronics. John's idea was to use the model of grocery retailing, with which the brothers were familiar, to sell computer and electronics supplies. Today, Fry's Food and Drug stores are owned and operated by Kroger, and are not affiliated with Fry's Electronics, although they have similar logos. Instead, on May 17, 1985, they joined together with a fourth partner, John's former girlfriend Kathryn Kolder, to open the first Fry's Electronics store at a 20,000 sq ft (1,900 m 2) site in Sunnyvale, California. Randolph (who goes by the nickname "Randy"), and David, none of whom had much interest in grocery store retailing. He gave a portion of the proceeds, around $1 million, to each of his sons, John (who had worked as the IT manager for the supermarket chain), W. In 1972, Charles Fry sold the Fry's Supermarkets chain based in California for US$14 million to Dillons. Outlines of removed storefront signs at Fountain Valley, California, location Shards of honour by lois mcmaster bujold6/26/2023 I was a little mystified but interested enough to check out more books in this series from the library.Īnd eventually I ended up here, with Shards of Honor, and Cordelia Naismith and Aral Vorkosigan’s first meeting. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, that book was not the best place to start with this series it assumes a lot of background knowledge about the characters and events in their lives and really isn’t characteristic of the series, with its focus on romance and social satire over adventure. Shards of Honor (often packaged with Barrayar and sold as Cordelia's Honor) is one of those SF space opera books that I love beyond reason and pull off my bookshelf every few years to reread, contentedly immersing myself in Bujold’s well-imagined world and the relationship between two characters I adore.Ī bit of background: I started my VORKOSIGAN SAGA experience years ago when I grabbed A Civil Campaign off the library shelves, and was introduced to the very short, brilliant, terrifyingly competent and wildly adventurous Miles Vorkosigan. An all-time SF favorite! Final review, first posted on Fantasy Literature: Someday I'll Kill You by Hugh Desmond6/26/2023 imagine you are going to a friend’s house, so you text this: seems normal, right? But what is you add the word semi to that colon? (Is that right? or is it the other way around) what is you add a lorry to that briquettes? (Semi-truck to that coal-on) anyway, back to the point: THAT IS JUST SO CREEPY! is that really your friend, or is it a creepy stalker watching your every move? Or even worse, is it your friend who is a creepy stalker? maybe you thought it was your friend, but it was actually your fri end (let me explain: you are happily in McDonalds, getting fat while eating yummy food and some random dude walks up and blots out the sun (he looks like a regular here) you can’t see anything else than him, so you can’t try to avoid eye contact. Why do people send that wink face! it always gives me nightmares! it can make a completely normal sentence creepy. I am not an average human being, however I am special. autocorrect is on!! no!!! this has to be crazy, so I will have to break all the English language rules and the basic knowledge of the average human being. I might just be saying random things the whole time I type in this so you might get confused a lot. the Longest Text In The Entire History Of The Known Universe! A gentleman in moscow a novel6/26/2023 A man of refined taste in wine, food, and literature, he strives to maintain a daily routine, exploring the nooks and crannies of the hotel, bonding with staff, accepting the advances of attractive women, and forming what proves to be a deeply meaningful relationship with a spirited young girl, Nina. Inside the elegant Metropol, located near the Kremlin and the Bolshoi, the Count slowly adjusts to circumstances as a "Former Person." He makes do with the attic room, to which he is banished after residing for years in a posh third-floor suite. Sentenced to house arrest in Moscow's Metropol Hotel by a Bolshevik tribunal for writing a poem deemed to encourage revolt, Count Alexander Rostov nonetheless lives the fullest of lives, discovering the depths of his humanity. Ayn rand graphic novel6/26/2023 I find it difficult to believe that human beings would willingly create such a system. It's a world designed solely to prove a point. The setting seems like some weird take on socialism designed to frighten Republican children. Certainly our protagonist (referring to him that way seems cumbersome, but the alternatives are “Equality 7-2521”, which is too amateurishly Sci-Fi, or his self-chosen “Prometheus”, which is too pretentious for words) follows classic Ubermensch lines: tall, blond, muscular, smart. I found myself idly wondering whether Kurt Vonnegut was intentionally parodying Anthem when he wrote “Harrison Bergeron.” I don't know the publication dates of the respective tales well enough to say. Certainly our hero seems convinced of this. One gets the sense that his children will Change Society and end the evils of socialism forevermore. So naturally our protagonist discovers his individuality, and rebels. Everything is mandated by the state for the good of all. Society is uber collective, with no individuality being tolerated. I suspect that I wouldn't care for it, and that supposition is largely borne out by this graphic novel adaptation of her work. I know her work purely by reputation and cultural osmosis. For the record, I won a free copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway.Īlso for the record, I have never read Ayn Rand. Goddess of the sea by pc cast6/25/2023 She's the sole proprietor of a successful bakery using her grandmother's Italian recipes, and is doing marvelously well until her accountant gives her horrid advice that leaves her deep in debt to the IRS. She's quite an atypical heroine, in that she is older (y'all, she's 43!) and she's survived the end of a marriage that left her caught between a lack of confidence - her husband left her for a younger, more fertile woman - and a regrowth of her own capabilities. Lina, or Carolina, is the owner of Pani del Goddess, a Tulsa-based bakery. Cast's Goddess series, between Goddess of the Sea, and Goddess of Light, and retells a myth you are likely familiar with, illuminating it in a manner that not only subverts the original meaning but recasts a lot of standard Greek mythology into femno-centric themes. Candy and I work so hard to keep this a fair, balanced, and damn snarky site and I might as well hork up a fluffy bunny for this review because my gosh, I loved this book. This might be the hardest review I wrote because I want to squee all over the place about all the factors I liked. But I think it was the writing- I cried at the end. Could be hormones, could be that I was really tired and already emotional. Let me get the climax out of the way first – not very satisfying, but really, I can't amble around verbally until I get to the good part. Lipomas are soft, fatty lumps that grow under your skin. The last policeman ben winters6/25/2023 What’s more interesting than the mystery surrounding Zell’s death is Winters’ vision of a pre-apocalyptic world, one where laws are both absolute and irrelevant and even minor players have major control over what could be a new future. Added to this is Palace’s mess of a little sister, Nico, who knows that Palace may be the only one with the cop chops to track down her missing husband. Any other cop would have let this apparent suicide go, but Palace is determined to do his duty when he senses something suspicious about the circumstances. Enter Peter Zell, or rather exit Peter, whose death is Palace’s latest case. Rookie Detective Hank Palace is determined to stay on top of his caseload even though many of his old colleagues seem to have cashed in and are bucket-listing it from now on. It’s turned Concord, N.H., into a “hanger town,” a reference to the suicide preference of locals. The impending impact of asteroid 2011GV1, unaffectionately known as Maia, has given life on Earth only six more months. In a pre-apocalyptic world, one detective still keeps watch-but to what end? |
